     Chittor reached the height of its prosperity and fame during the reign of Rana Kumbha, the successful ruler of Mewar (1433 – 1468 AD) Kumbha was a great builder. 

     For the security of his kingdom, he got 32 big and small forts constructed and renovated. 

     Ekling Mahatmya, Kirtistambha Prashasti and Kumbhalgarh inscription give detailed information about the construction works of Kumbha.

     Kumbha got the ancient fort of Chittor renovated and its strong ramparts, advanced bastions and huge. 

     By getting the entrance gates constructed, he was given the form of an impregnable fort.

     According to Veervinod, Kumbha built Kirtistambha (Victory Pillar), Kumbhashyam Temple, Laxminath Temple, Ramkund etc. on the fort of Chittor.

     He got Kukdeshwar's tank renovated and repaired it by preparing four gates and ramparts in the way to the fort which was very difficult and hilly.

     Rana Kumbha of Maharana Mewar built the entrance gates of the fort (Rampol, Hanumanpol, Bhairavpol, Mahalakshmipol, Chamundapol, Tarapol and Rajpol).

     He also built many ponds and steps including the temple of Adivaraha, Jalyantra (Arhat) there.

ALAUDDIN KHILJI  : -

     Although this fort was mostly dominated by the Mewar Guhil dynasty.

     However, in different periods this fort remained under Mori (Parmar), Pratihara, Parmar, Solanki, Khilji Songare Chauhans and Mughal rulers. 

     Alauddin Khilji appointed Kanhadde Songara Bhai Maldev Songara of Jalore, who is known in history as 'Maldev Muchhala', as the governor of Chittor. 

     After the death of Alauddin, Guhil dynasty Hammir (who was the master of Sisod Institute of Mewar). 

     Took Chittor from Sonagars.

     His descendants were called Sisodiyas after the name of their ancestral place.

     The role of Baru ji Charan and his mother Birwadi Devi was important in this success of Hammir.
